The Ruth & Irving Olson Center for Jewish Life Northwest Division

Our Center connects Jewish residents of Oro Valley, Marana, SaddleBrook, Catalina, Oracle, and other northwest Tucson communities with each other and also the larger Jewish community.

The Federation is very grateful to Carolyn and Michael Stelman, the Olsons’ daughter and son-in-law, and to Kathryn Unger, dear friend of the Olsons, for providing the resources to further the Olsons’ support of the Jewish community in Northwest Tucson.

This center connects Jewish residents of Oro Valley, Marana, SaddleBrook, Catalina, Oracle, and other northwest Tucson communities with each other and also the larger Jewish community.

The center hosts a variety of ongoing groups

  • Mah Jongg weekly with gaming and snacks
  • Book Club co-hosted monthly with Hadassah Southern Arizona, with selections and discussions loosely based on Jewish themes, subjects and authors
  • Pomegranate Guild of Judaic Needlework the Tucson Chapter
  • Rosh Chodesh Women's Group, for women of all ages, monthly evening discussions on a Judaic and community topics
  • Men's Group for men of all ages, monthly excursions to interesting places with lunch or other dining-out social gatherings
  • Northwest Advisory Council to envision and shape the center’s future, with monthly board meetings
  • Lunch and Learn adult education series featuring a rotation of local rabbis, each presenting topics at a community luncheon at the center
  • Kibbitz & Schmear Open House meet up with free coffee, bagels, and friendship for all
  • PJ Library Story Time monthly for young children and their caregivers or families with crafts, stories, snacks, and songs
  • Chair Yoga with a Jewish Flair class for fitness, health, and friendship
  • Northwest Needlers weekly sewing group to knit or crochet tzedakah projects to donate throughout the community

Phyllis Gold is the Director of Ruth & Irving Olson Center for Jewish Life Northwest Division. She is a native Tucsonan who grew up in the Jewish community and let the Satori School growth to over 250 families. She and her children have experienced the best of Jewish Tucson through Tucson Hebrew Academy, JCC summer camps, Hebrew High and more. She attends Congregation Bet Shalom.
